Why do distant objects shimmer on a hot day?

Moreover, when you approach closer to the seemingly wet surface, it disappears slowly. This phenomenon is nothing but the effects of refraction of light. The heat is responsible for the shimmering heat waves and it makes the distant cars look wavy. Refraction of light takes place when travelling light is bent due to change in medium. In this case, the light coming from the distant car travels through various regions of air till it reaches our eyes.  The various regions of air has different temperature and light bending abilities depending on how hot each section of the road happens to be. What will happen to the humidity without air? How humid shall we feel if there’s no air around us? Humidity is the amount of moisture which the air holds, so hot air is more humid and cold air is less humid. Am I correct? Turns out to be No. The fact is humidity is not actually the amount of water suspended in the air like aerosols, instead it is the amount of water being converted into vapour. Technically water itself has nothing to do with humidity, the air above in the middle of an ocean can be pretty dry (less humid). It’s the water vapour or gas that makes the air so heavy. Now, the air itself is not a carrier for the vapour, it has no such carrying power, I mean water vapour is independent of the presence of air.
